Neil Gaiman creates tension in the narrator's book and shows us that he still listens to his father and loves his father. His father is the alpha dog in the story and he'll do as his father says and when Ursala the babysitter arrived she also set a wall between the adult world and the children's world. Ursala set the boundary when she felt older so that she could boss around whoever she wanted because  she was the adult in the house. The question is not really solved by the end of the novel bur is more or less not dealt with. Such as his parents losing everything after the poor memory sticked out of them. And after all that happened the barrier between the adults and children still existed towards the end.
